November 20, 2012 Public Meeting

On November 20, 2012, an estimated 500 people crowded into the Gymansium at John Barsby Community School  to discuss the City of Nanaimo's plans to demolish the dams in Colliery Lake Dams Park.

Mayor John Ruttan and a number of councillors, including Fred Pattje, Ted Greves, Diana Johnstone, and Bill McKay attended the event.

The crowd listened to speakers including Jeff Solomon, Geraldine Collins, and Brad Maguire who discussed the importance of the park, alternatives to the City's Plans, and the social importance of the park for local residents.

Members of the public were invited to speak, and a number of them expressed their anger over the City's plans, which were announced without any public consultation.
